HOW TO GET THERE AND MEET US?
All our cruises in Raja Ampat start from the small town of Waisai on Waigeo Island. Other cruises start in Sorong, Kaimana or Ambon. Please check the cruise schedule carefully.
Sorong is the major gateway to Waisai and Raja Ampat. Garuda Indonesia flies direct from Jakarta and Makassar to Sorong. Batik Air and Lion Air also operate direct flights from Jakarta and other major cities in Indonesia. These airlines currently offer flights with early morning arrivals in Sorong. Arrivals before 7am allow for enough time to catch the morning ferry to Waisai at 9am.
Taxis without meter operate between Sorong Airport and Sorong ferry terminal. The going rate is 100.000 Rupiah per car.
A fast ferry runs from Sorong to Waisai on Waigeo Island daily at 9:00 and 14:00. The ferry takes 2 hours and costs 125.000 Rupiah in 2nd class and 250.000 Rupiah in VIP class. The 9:00 ferry is perfect to meet us on the ship for a check in before 12:00.
We offer a guided transfer from Sorong Airport or hotels in Sorong to Waisai for 750,000 IDR (50$) per person one way. Please book this with us and give advance notice of your arrival time or the hotel you will be staying.
Ambon is well connected by air to many cities in Indonesia and not difficult to get to.
Kaimana Airport has flights to and from Sorong with Wing Air. Make sure to arrive a day before the start of the cruise.
We offer a free transfer in the towns of departure and arrival of our ship on departure and arrival day.
There is a 2 hour time difference between Jakarta and West Papua.
A word of caution: Indonesia`s transportation system can be less than perfect. We find that airlines other than Garuda Indonesia sometimes cancel flights on short notice, they may or may not accept foreign credit cards for online bookings and some can be difficult to book from abroad.
A lot can get in the way when travelling in Indonesia: Flights get canceled, departure times change, taxis get stuck in traffic in big cities, roads and bridges get washed away in heavy rain.... You get the picture. It is wise to allow for errors and not to arrive on the last minute. Come a day or two early and take the stress out of traveling if you can.
